When car­dioids are used in so­me si­tu­a­tions, e.g. as hand-held mi­cro­phones for vo­ca­lists or an­noun­cers, pro­xi­mity ef­fect can be­co­me qui­te pro­mi­nent. In ad­di­tion, the output le­vel can be­co­me much hig­her than that of the ot­her mi­cro­pho­nes being used at the sa­me ti­me, which may be mo­re di­stant and / or of dy­na­mic ty­pe. Neit­her cha­rac­te­ri­stic is des­i­rable. So SCHOEPS of­fers the MK 4S / CCM 4S in a spe­ci­al ver­sion known as the MK 4A or CCM 4A (“A“ for “at­te­nu­a­tion“), with a stron­ger low-fre­quen­cy rolloff and 10 dB lo­wer sen­si­ti­vity.
